The Boston Red Sox Had Positives Come Out Of The Postseason

Now that it has been a few days since the Red Sox were bounced in the playoffs by the Cleveland Indians, it’s time to look at the positives that came out of the series.

Yes, they got absolutely smoked in pretty much every phase of the game but there were some good signs for the future to come out of the series.

Andrew Benintendi

Andrew Benintendi who was still playing for the Razorbacks in the spring of 2015, and he still managed to hit .333 with a home run on the road in his 1st at bat in his playoff career.

More from Boston Red Sox

He was one of the few players on the Red Sox who wasn’t pressing at the plate and reaching for those outside curveball’s that his teammates were striking out on in Cleveland.

Yes he did have the mistake in Game 1 where he took his time getting a ball back in the infield and let a runner tag up from 1st to 2nd which seemed like it turned the series in the Indians favor. Overall, in the playoffs it looked like the moment wasn’t effecting him and he looks like he will be a star going forward.

Joe Kelly

I’ve always been a big Joe Kelly fan. He can throw 99-100 mph with ease. If you can throw that hard, you should have good numbers.

He’s been trash at best starting for the Red Sox (besides for the last 2 months of 2015). Since he’s moved to the bullpen he’s been better. He pitched in all 3 games against the Indians in 3.2 innings with 3 strikeouts and no runners reached.

To make things better, he looked like the real deal. He could be the next Wade Davis.

Xander Bogaerts

Yes he looked like he was more lost at the plate in Cleveland then Tom Hanks on a deserted island but when the series went back to Boston, he went 2/4 in that game 3 and had possibly the 2 best swings he’s had since June which sadly isn’t an exaggeration.

But in his last game of the season, he looked better at the plate then he has in 4 months. Going into this off-season, having one good game before a few months off can only give him a confidence boost going into next year.

Next: Red Sox Keep Farrell And Accept Being Average

It will be extremely difficult to replace the offense that David Ortiz brought to the plate but the future really is bright for this Red Sox team. Betts, Bogaerts, Benintendi, and Bradley will be a year older and the extra experience will help them. This postseason reminded me of the Patriots in 2010 when they were bounced in the divisional round by the Jets. The young players got a little experience in the playoffs and the following year they made it to the Super Bowl.
