Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas didn’t miss a basket as the Boston ran past the Brooklyn Nets 120-99.

There was no stopping Isaiah Thomas Monday night.  In Boston’s 120-99 preseason victory over the Nets, the Celtics guard went 6-for-6 from the field and led the team with 19 points.  All of those 19 points came in the first half.

Thomas did display some sloppy passing, but his scoring perfection has him ready for the regular season and ready to pick off where he left off last season.  The All-Star point guard was particularly excited about the offensive aggressing of the starting unit.  When asked about how good this 2016-17 Celtics team can be, Thomas gushed about the prospects.

More from Boston Celtics

"“We have a pretty good team — a team that can make some legitimate noise,” Thomas said via ESPN. “And if we put it together and play the right way, we can make a lot happen this season. We don’t ever want to put a ceiling on it, but we have a really good team. I know that.”"

Thomas spent the entire second half of the game on the bench cheering on the young players who eventually ended up blowing the game open.  The Celtics are now 5-1 in the preseason and is looking like they are ready to make the “noise” Thomas feels they will make.

Notes & quotes

Jaylen Brown:  The rookie had another strong showing Monday night.  Jaylen Brown was 5-for-8 shooting and finished with 12 points.  Like Saturday night, he did have some issues on the defensive end of the court.  He picked up five personal fouls in just under 20 minutes played.  That is an aspect of his game he will have to work on to be effective in the regular season.

James Young: The third-year man is fighting for a roster spot and showed some fight on Monday night.  He scored a total of 10 points, with 8 of those points coming in the third quarter when the Celtics blew the game wide open.  The scoring, along with the hustle Young has displayed could make him attractive to another team if he doesn’t make Boston’s roster.

Brad Stevens on impending roster decisions via CSNNE:

"“That’s one of the reasons why you don’t jump to conclusions after one game or one practice of one performance, because that’s a lot of weight on people’s shoulders. And I have a great deal of respect for everybody in that locker room. As I’ve said many times before, just to be able to put that jersey on, whether you’re on the final roster or not … you’re a pretty special basketball player.”"

James Young on his fight for a roster spot:

"“I’m plenty more confident in my game.  A lot of people are backing me up to just go on and be aggressive. So that’s been helping me and I’m not thinking about much.”"
