Patriots Gridiron News 10/25: Chris Hogan Critical on Himself After Fumble
New England Patriots wide receiver Chris Hogan critical on himself for early fumble against the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday.
The one thing the New England Patriots couldn’t afford to do against the Pittsburgh Steelers is turn the ball over early. And that’s exactly what they did as wide receiver Chris Hogan fumbled on the team’s first possession.
Luckily for Hogan and the Patriots, the Steelers gave the ball right back on an end zone interception by cornerback Malcolm Butler. But for Hogan, the early turnover resulted in him losing playing time and not being as much of a factor as he could’ve been in the game.

The Patriots still went on to win 27-16 despite the sloppy play, but Hogan learned a valuable lesson and was even more critical on himself when asked about his fumble.
"“That’s on me,” Hogan said following Sunday’s game. “I have to understand that there is going to be people coming from behind looking to strip. I was a little careless with it and I had to move on after that, but obviously, I’ll be working on ball security drills throughout the week.”"
Overall, Hogan was proud of the way his team fought and came away with a victory in a tough environment. He also hopes to bounce back with a strong game against his former team, the Buffalo Bills, on Sunday.
Just Rex being Rex: As the Patriots prepare for a rematch against the Buffalo Bills, old friend Rex Ryan is yapping at the mouth again. Ryan has one up on the Patriots this season, but with Tom Brady back at quarterback, there will not be a shut out this time around. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Ryan talked about the dislike both teams have for one another.
"“These two teams don’t like each other, there’s no question about that,” Ryan said via WEEI. “But I don’t think there was a real fight, you know? A real fight would be outside in a parking lot, you know what I mean? Then you really got something to write about. But that thing was hardly a fight.”"
Roster moves: According to Patriots.com Monday, the Patriots have made a couple roster moves. The team announced that they have released DL Anthony Johnson from the 53-man roster and DB Vinnie Sunseri from the practice squad.
Johnson’s release will most likely place him back on the practice squad. The 23-year-old product of Louisiana State played in four games with the Patriots, including one start. He has recorded nine total tackles and two passes defensed.
