New England Patriots defensive tackles Malcom Brown and Alan Branch have been silently getting it done on defense this season.

Vince Wilfork is no longer walking through that door and the Patriots don’t need him to.  That’s because they have two big defensive tackles who have been the stars of the front seven this season.  Veteran Alan Branch and second-year man Malcom Brown are simply getting it done.

While they don’t have the Pro Bowl numbers to show just how valuable they have been, their teammates surely appreciate what they have been doing.

More from New England Patriots

"“Alan Branch and Malcom Brown are two of the best guys to do it,” Dont’a Hightower said via the Boston Herald. “I’ve been here with Vince (Wilfork). Those guys are up there with him, maybe not as well as he did it or as long as he did it, but those are definitely impact players on the defensive line.”"

At a combined weight of 670 points, Branch and Brown both have the ability to clog the middle.  The attention they have gotten has enabled players like Hightower and Jamie Collins to make some of the big plays they make.  That has always been the responsibility of the defensive tackle in the Patriots’ system.

"“To me personally, I just like to do my job,” Brown said. “Whether I get recognized or not, as long as I know I did my job on that play, I’m good. I don’t need it to be said out loud. As long as I can watch that film and be like, ‘That’s where I needed to be,’ I’m good.”"

Both players may get the recognition they deserve, especially if they keep it up.

President Obama bold prediction:  President Barack Obama likes the New England Patriots. When asked his opinion on who he thinks will represent the AFC and NFC in the Super Bowl, Obama offered the following prediction:

"“At this point, you’d have to put your money on [Tom] Brady again. I don’t see any real strong teams. Seattle and Patriots have a rematch [from the 2014 season]. That’s my call.”"

Injury report:  Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett is now listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Bills.  Bennett was also spotted leaving practice early and was later seen with a white plastic brace on his right ankle.

The big tight end initially injured his right ankle during the first quarter of the game against the Cleveland Browns.  He has been playing through the injury the last couple weeks.  If Bennett isn’t able to go on Sunday, the Patriots may have a problem at the tight end position.  After trading A.J. Derby earlier this week, the team is suddenly thin at the position.  Fullback James Develin may have to fill in at the position.
