Red Sox News & Notes: Torey Louvullo Hired as Diamondbacks Manager
The Boston Red Sox will now have to replace bench coach Torey Louvullo.
The Red Sox better hope their decision to bring back John Farrell pays off. On Friday it was announced that bench coach and prospective Farrell successor Torey Louvullo has been hired as manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
John Heyman of MLB Network first reported the news via Twitter:
Louvullo is the latest ex-Red Sox employee to head over to the Diamondbacks. New GM Mike Hazen was recently hired in October, so it is no surprise that Louvullo was top on his list to become Arizona’s next manager.

The new Diamondbacks manager saw his stock rise when he took over for John Farrell on an interim basis in 2015. Louvullo inspired Boston’s young players and the team went 28-21 under his leadership. His popularity and ability to reach the players led to speculation that he would eventually take Farrell’s job. But with the team’s decision to bring Farrell back, Louvullo’s next opportunity was somewhere else.
Torey Louvullo will take over an Arizona team that finished in last place with a record of 69-93.
Theo Epstein ranks Chicago’s parade over Boston
Chicago Cubs president Theo Epstein has now witnessed world championships in both Boston and Chicago. After guiding the Red Sox to world championships in both 2004 and 2007 and being apart of both parades, Epstein says the Cubs 2016 championship parade was much better than the ones in Boston. Ouch!
As much as that may hurt Red Sox fans, he really does have both teams in his heart. Following the Cubs World Series victory in Game 7, Epstein did not make a comparison between the two organizations.
"“It’s like two of your children, you know?” Epstein said via the Boston Herald. “You love ‘em both, you don’t want to compare ‘em. Different origins, different personalities, but you treasure both of them. I’m just happy for this organization. It’s not about me or comparing to the Red Sox.”"
Notes
According to NESN, the Boston Red Sox are hosting another “Baseball Winter Weekend.”
The event will take place at Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, Conn., from Friday, Jan 20, to Sunday, Jan. 22. The 3rd annual event allows fans to interact with Red Sox front office staff and players.
