Patriots Gridiron News 11/14: Martellus Bennett Shows His Power in 31-24 Loss
The New England Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett was one of the bright spots in the team’s 31-24 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Martellus Bennett is getting healthy and it showed in Sunday night’s game against the Seattle Seahawks. The Patriots big tight end was effective hauling in seven catches for 102 yards. Bennett not only looked explosive, but looked powerful.
An example of that power happened on a play in which Bennett broke a tackle and then delivered a punishing stiff arm on Seahawks safety Earl Thomas. The play showed just how dangerous Bennett can be in this Patriots’ offense. It also showed what he could do against good defenses like Seattle.

"“They play good football, and we knew it was going to come down to, [we knew] it was going to be a 60-minute game, that’s one of the things we knew was going to happen,” Bennett said. “It’s been like that for them all year and the last couple years it’s always been 60-minute games no matter who they’re playing and we knew at the end of the game it was going to come down to the last couple plays.”"
It also came down to physical play and Martellus Bennett delivered one of the more physical plays of the game.
Jabaal Sheard: So what has happened to Patriots defensive end Jabaal Sheard? While there is no clear answer, that is the question being asked as Sheard saw his playing time decreased on Sunday night.

In the 31-24 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Sheard was buried in the No. 4 spot on the depth chart and was only in the game for 16 snaps. There is no sign of injury, so it appears he is losing playing time at the expense of second-year defensive end Trey Flowers who recorded two sacks in the Sunday night matchup.
Dion Lewis: Patriots running back Dion Lewis was activated to the 53-man roster, but was inactive for the game. The elusive back hasn’t seen live game action since over a year ago, but appears on track to step back on the field soon.
