New England Patriots: Malcolm Mitchell Trending in Right Direction
New England Patriots rookie Malcolm Mitchell is becoming a nice outside option for Tom Brady.
Tom Brady has a new weapon. In the last two weeks, New England Patriots wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell has emerged as a reliable option for the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback. On Sunday, the Georgia product caught two touchdown receptions to help the Patriots defeat the New York Jets 22-17.
Impressively, Mitchell made both touchdown receptions (including the winning touchdown) by beating cornerback Darrelle Revis. The fact that Brady even looked his way with one of the top corners in the game covering him showed just how much trust is being developed between the two players.
While Mitchell said he was aware Revis was covering him, he just remained focused and did what his team needed him to do to win the game.
"“I tried to stay focused but I wasn’t ignorant of the fact it’s Revis,’’ Mitchell said via the Boston Herald. “I didn’t think about it while we were playing. Maybe on the sideline or before the game in warmups but not during the game. He’s a football player just like me.’’"

His ability to stay focused is part of the reason he has come through the last couple of weeks when his name has been called. Even when he didn’t make a play, like the dropped touchdown pass prior to the winning drive, Mitchell said his New England Patriots teammates kept him encouraged to come through the next time his name was called.
"“Of course I was down,’’ Mitchell said of the missed opportunity. “I think I was praying on the field to get another opportunity. I felt like I messed up an opportunity to win the game.“We have a team full of great guys who kept me encouraged. I felt miserable after missing the earlier pass. All the guys kept me encouraged and told me we have more time.’’"
That opportunity did come with less than two minutes left in the game. Mitchell was able to come through following up a nice performance in San Francisco with another clutch performance in the Meadowlands.

Malcolm Mitchell had a total five catches for 42 yards, but almost all those catches put the team in position to win the game. When a player can produce that way, the only way they can trend is up.
