With a passionate national following, the Boston Red Sox come in at No. 29 in the Fandom 250.

A historic ballpark, Ted Williams, Big Papi and the echoes of “Sweet Caroline” are just a few reasons to love the Boston Red Sox and are also just some of the reasons your favorite baseball team came in at No. 29 in FanSided’s Fandom 250.

As part of the ultimate task of ranking the top 250 fan bases covering all forms of entertainment, the Red Sox ranking is a bit disappointing for those who have lived through the curse of the bambino and watched joyfully as the boys of summer broke that same curse in the October of 2004.

More from Boston Red Sox

In fact, the fan base that has become known as Red Sox Nation has grown accustomed to winning.  Three World Series in a span of ten years would make any fan base proud.  While the team hasn’t won a championship since 2013, the recent addition of left-handed pitcher Chris Sale instantly propels the team as a favorite to represent the American League in the 2017 World Series.

As one of the top pitchers in the game, Sale talked about how excited he was to play for an organization like the Red Sox.

"“I’m as excited as anybody, honestly,” he said. “I don’t know how you couldn’t be. You’re in the annual running for making the playoffs and have a realistic chance of winning the World Series. I’ve always heard great things about the guys on this team, the front office. You have dedicated ownership and front-office guys dedicated to winning annually. It’s exciting. I’ve always, always loved going to Boston, pitching in Boston.”"

That right there sums up how many of the great players who have either passed through Boston or played their entire careers in Boston feel about the city and representing the uniform.

The general excitement that surrounds the team year in and year out is also a reason why the team should be ranked higher than No. 29.  Although they are the 3rd ranked team in Major League Baseball, coming in behind the heated rival New York Yankees and 2016 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs will not sit well with fans.

It’s understandable coming behind the Cubs…this year, but the Boston Red Sox should definitely rank higher than the Yankees.  What other fan base stuck behind their team training 3-0 in a playoff series and watched their team come back to win?  Oh…the team that blew that lead was that team from New York.

As competitive as the team is, the fans are as well and will aim to rank a lot higher in the next Fandom 250.
