New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman says Tom Brady screaming at him just means there is much love between the two.

Tom Brady and Julian Edelman are great friends off the field, but the competitive nature of both players can lead to disagreement on the field.  In Monday night’s 30-23 victory over the Baltimore Ravens, the Patriots’ offense struggled during the first few drives.  Frustrated, Brady unleashed on Edelman after a long pass sailed over his head.

Brady appeared upset that Edelman partially stopped running on the route. The 39-year-old quarterback was visibly shouting towards Edelman’s direction following the play.  As the two players have connected many times over the last few years, Edelman told sports radio WEEI, that Brady’s yelling only translated to love.

"“There was a miscommunication,” Edelman said. “I have to do better and go on from there. That’s just ebbs and flows of competitiveness in a crucial game. I know how he is. I’d be a little more scared if he wasn’t yelling at me, because if he yells at you, he says he loves you.“He must really love me, I guess.”"

The two are very close and Edelman is one of Brady’s favorite targets.  In fact, with Rob Gronkowski out, the usually reliable wide receiver is who Brady has targeted the most over the past couple weeks.

Julian Edelman on returning punts

Due to the injury of Danny Amendola and struggles of rookie Cyrus Jones, Edelman will likely be called upon to return punts.  While it is something the team would like to shy away from, Edelman says he loves returning punts and will do whatever the teams asks of him.

"“I’ll do what the coaches as me to do. I personally love doing punt returns,” Edelman said. “That’s a passion of mine. If my number gets called, my numbers gets called and I will do it like a bat out of hell.”"

Edelman is the team’s best punt returner, but because of the team’s lack of depth at wide receiver, the Patriots best bet to look in another direction and that could be newly-acquired wide receiver Griff Whalen.
