The Boston Bruins Have Too Many Centers On Their Team

Should the Boston Bruins trade David Krejci?

Short answer for the Boston Bruins: yes.

Long answer definitely.

The Boston Bruins are missing a piece that will put them in the elite team category, they have been able to compete with some of the top teams in the league like their win against Montreal, albeit the Canadiens were missing a few key pieces in their lineup. Also the team held their own against one of the best teams in the league, the Anaheim Ducks.

The Bruin are a team with 9 centers.

Boston Bruins Centers:

  1. Patrice Bergeron
  2. David Krejci
  3. David Backes
  4. Riley Nash
  5. Dominic Moore
  6. Ryan Spooner
  7. Noel Acciari
  8. Tim Schaller
  9. Danton Heinen

I know centers are the easiest position to rotate around. Team Canada had almost all centers on their team during the Word Cup. Canada had two of the Best centers in the world playing together Sidney Crosby and Patrice Bergeron. One of the few winger was Brad Marchand. I do not have a problem having extra centers but 9 is just overkill. When the team signed Backes I thought for sure that Spooner or Krejci was going to be moved. The just for fun they decided to sigh Moore and Nash too.

The problem now:

More from Boston Bruins

The Bruins problem is not scoring it is defense. They have a goal differential of minus 3, but the scoring in the league does seem to be down as the leader only has 21 goals and that is Sidney Crosby with David Pastrnak right behind him with 19.

About David Krejci and his numbers

David Krejci is a very good center but if trading him means putting David Backes at his natural position I would do it in a heartbeat. Currently David Krejci has 6 goals,13 assists for 19 points, and he is a minus 7. which puts him third on the team behind Marchy and Pasta. Krejci is in his 11th season with the Bruins. He has played in 655 games and counting with 140 goals, 351 assists, with 491 points. Krejci is a plus 101 on his career. David Krejci has been a Bruins for life and the thought of trading him hurts but the team has too many centers.

The Bruins Defense Prospects

They do have many in their system like new comer Matt Grzelcyk and Charlie McAvoy who is currently playing at Boston University. Also Rob O’Gara who while with the Bruins played well. Then there is current rookie Brandon Carlo who is fist in ice time among rookie defenseman is playing outstanding.

Who should the Team trade for:

The Bruins need a top pairing defensemen they have 4 third pairing defenseman and 1 and a half top 2 considering Chara’s age. The one problem the Bruins have is Krejci might not get them what they want so the Bruins may have to throw another piece in and I would say that would be Torey Krug or Ryan Spooner.

David Krejci is a very good two-way forward and could be wanted by many teams. I think the best thing for the Bruins to go after would be a defenseman. We all know that Claude Julien has something against Ryan Spooner. Which would make trading him easy for Claude.

Now Krug is a bit tougher to give up because he is still young but he is not that great of a defenseman he is more like a fourth forward when he is on the ice. He is a great power play guy but that is about it.
