New England Patriots rookie wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell continues to receiver praise for his play on the field.

Last week, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick compared Malcolm Mitchell to former Patriots Deion Branch.  This week, Branch has taken some time to praise the rookie wide receiver out of the University of Georgia.

Lauded as “one of the smartest receivers” to come into New England since Branch, Belichick applauded Mitchell’s ability to catch on and insert himself into Tom Brady’s circle of trust.

What does Branch think of the comparison?  Well, he agrees.

"“I’ve watched his game and one of the things that stands out to me is the confidence that Brady has in him. As a young guy, that’s not the norm,” Branch said via ESPN. “I’m watching [offensive coordinator] Josh [McDaniels] create plays for him, Tom make him his first read, and when that happens with a rookie receiver, it’s only great things [ahead].”"

Branch has also observed Mitchell as a hands catcher and “not a body catcher.”  That is what has made the kid a special addition to the offensive unit.  He is not the fastest wide receiver, but his good hands allow for him to make the plays necessary to move the chains.

Michael Floyd:  There will be no debut in Denver for Michael Floyd.  According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the newly acquired wide receiver will be inaction for Sunday’s game against the Broncos.

It was also reported by that Floyd may serve a multi-game suspension from the NFL for his DUI arrest last week.  The suspension wouldn’t be administered until the 2017 season.  This could decrease his value around the league and could result in the Patriots retaining him next season at a low price.

Trevor Bates: Former University of Maine linebacker Trevor Bates has earned a raise with the New England Patriots.  As a member of the practice squad, Bates will see his minimum of $6,900 per week adjusted to $18,000 per week.

The raise shows how much the team thinks of him as a player.  Bates was a seventh-round draft choice of the Indianapolis Colts.  He has played one regular-season game for the Colts.
