New Patriots Talk: Michael Floyd DUI Video Shouldn’t Change Perception Of What He Did

When Michael Floyd was released by the Arizona Cardinals because of a DUI last week and was ultimately claimed off waivers by the Patriots, I was okay with the pickup. Obviously he has a problem and coming to New England would definitely put him in a better place not only physically but mentally.

Since then it came out that his BAC according to a blood test he was forced to take shortly after the arrest was at a .217, which is considered a Super Extreme DUI in Arizona. The police video also shows that he was clearly out of it. With that, my opinion of this pick up by the Patriots hasn’t changed.

I’m not trying to condone what Floyd did whatsoever. I think he’s a moron for getting behind the wheel when he was that bombed at 3am, a time when he should be in bed already. But we all knew that he was arrested for a DUI and no one seemed to care until this video came out.

More from New England Patriots

A DUI is still a DUI. It didn’t matter if it was a .09 or the .217 that he had. The Arizona Cardinals were going to release him once it came out that he was arrested for a DUI. If a current Patriots player did that I’d be saying cut him right away. Let another team deal with it.

Either way, if Floyd’s BAC was.09 or .217, it’s not a good look. So why be in such an uproar now when the news came out of the specifics of his arrest compared to when we didn’t know. That doesn’t take away from the fact that he shouldn’t have been driving.

The NFLPA does have a driving service for all of its members which makes this move by Floyd even more moronic.

Either way, this was a football move. Bill brought him in because he thought he could help the football team. Floyd has continuously put up big numbers as a receiver over his short career. Bringing in a talented receiver like Floyd, in a contract year, down the stretch in a Super Bowl run, and when he walks in the spring you get a draft pick compensation, there is all upside in keeping him around.

But chances are the NFL will probably throw a suspension down on him now. After all, the NFL is so PR heavy, they’re not going to want him around the media especially since the Patriots are Super Bowl favorites. But I now want Floyd to get a big TD in the Super Bowl which forces Roger Goodell to give the Patriots the Vince Lombardi Trophy. That would be a sweet victory for Patriots fans after everything that has happened in the last two years.

Here’s the video that was released by TMZ below:

Floyd is expected to suit up for New England on Saturday against the New York Jets and according to Scott Zolak of 98.5 the Patriots will be using Floyd as the X receiver.
