Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman believes his offense can do whatever they want against the New England Patriots defense.

Something will have to give with the No. 1 scoring offense battles the No. 1 scoring defense in Super Bowl LI.  Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman is confident that his offense will prevail against the New England Patriots defense when the two teams square off in Houston, Texas on Feb. 5.

While not exactly giving the Patriots bulletin board material, the talented running back most definitely amped up the defense’s motivation during his appearance on PFT Live on Friday.

More from New England Patriots

"“We can do whatever we want,” Freeman said about his offense.  “It’s on us to execute.”"

If the Patriots can’t figure out a way to stop the many weapons the Falcons have, Freeman will prove himself right with his words.  Atlanta led the NFL in points per game during the regular season with 33.8 and even topped that in the playoffs.

With Matt Ryan having an MVP season, Julio Jones presenting a tough matchup for any secondary and Freeman -along with Tevin Coleman – presenting all kinds of problems out of the backfield, the Falcons will be the toughest challenge for the New England’s defense.

As far as Atlanta’s inexperience goes, Devonta Freeman doesn’t believe that will be a factor in Super Bowl LI.  He pointed out that he has played in big games before and the Falcons as a team will go into the game looking to handle their business.

"“We’re grown men,” Freeman said.  “We’re going down there for one reason and one reason only.  And that’s to handle business.”"

Patriots’ defense response

The New England Patriots defense have had something to prove all year and will have to come up with another big game in Houston.  Freeman’s words are certain to have gotten back to the team, but as usual, New England players are blocking out the noise.

"“I don’t know anything about that,” Rob Ninkovich said Sunday via USA Today.  “And I’m really focused on getting ready for this game and having it be a hard-fought, physical football game.  That’s what we’re trying to get our minds right for.”"

It’s a sure bet Bill Belichick and defensive coordinator Matt Patricia will have their team ready to do their talking on the field.

Super Bowl LI betting line: Entering the week of the Super Bowl, the Patriots are holding steady as a three-point favorite over the Falcons.

This is surprising because the Patriots are getting the majority of the money in their favor and typically when that happens, the line moves as much as a full point.  It is worth noting that the Patriots have only covered the spread two times in their six Super Bowls in the Bill Belichick and Tom Brady era.

The Patriots were a one-point underdog in their Super Bowl XLIX victory over the Seattle Seahawks.  The team hasn’t won by more than four points in any of their Super Bowl victories.
