New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola was one of the unsung heroes of the team’s 34-28 Super Bowl LI victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

Wide receiver Danny Amendola is one of the reasons the New England Patriots completed the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history.

Down as much as 28-3, the Patriots overcame a 25-point deficit to win their fifth Super Bowl championship with tough, timely defense and key performances on the offensive side of the football.  Along with James White, Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan and rookie wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell, Amendola was monumental in the comeback effort.

The 31-year-old receiver caught a season-high eight passes on 11 targets for 78 yards and a touchdown.  He also scored the game-tying 2-pt conversion.  Amendola, who may possibly have played his last game in a Patriots’ uniform, saved his best game for last and was able to do it in front of his hometown.

After the historic victory, Amendola told reporters that the emphasis coming out of halftime was to stay mentally tough and continue to do their jobs.

"“We were just worrying about beating them by one point,” Amendola said via NESN. “We knew we had to come out in the second half and play no matter what. They were coming at us with a lot of things. We just wanted to be resilient, we wanted to be tough mentally, and we got it done.”"

Amendola hasn’t seen much action this season with the Patriots.  But, when he has, he has been clutch.  His ability to stay focused and ready is a reason why Tom Brady trust going to him at crucial times.  One of the plays he made was a key fourth-and-3 reception in the fourth quarter.  The play is least talked about, but without it, the comeback wouldn’t have been possible.

If Danny Amendola is to move on from the New England Patriots, he will go out with a bang as a two-time Super Bowl champion.  He played a key role in both of those Super Bowls.
