New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has distanced himself from all other quarterbacks with his fifth Super Bowl victory.

Tom Brady’s historic comeback in Super Bowl LI was so great that he has secured the title of “greatest quarterback of all time” from many critics, fans and players.  But now everyone is ready to concede that the New England Patriots quarterback is the best of all time.  That includes his childhood hero Joe Montana.

While the 25-point comeback was as clutch as you can get in the NFL as a quarterback, Montana is not ready to give anyone that title because of all the players from the past who don’t get as much attention.

More from New England Patriots

"“He’s obviously having this great career, but I just think that it’s hard to put anyone in that bucket,” Montana in response to Brady taking the mantle as the greatest via TMZ. “Even before he got five, you look back at some of the guys that some people don’t even know, Sammy Baugh or Otto Graham … (Graham) won like seven championships.”"

Montana does have a point with his statement.  While many who believe or don’t believe Brady is the G.O.A.T, they are only basing their opinion on the modern day quarterback.  In fairness one has to also compare any of today’s quarterback (last 30 years) to those great players Montana mentioned above.

That also goes for Montana himself.  When told that some considered him the greatest of all time, Montana echoed what he said about Brady.

"“Even though people say that – and I appreciate that – I still can’t say that about myself,” Montana said."

In actuality, Tom Brady would say the same thing if put in Montana’s position.  What makes both players so great and clutch is their team-first mentality and how they made others around them better.  What Brady has over Joe Montana is his accomplishments came with a different cast of characters each time he raised the Vince Lombardi trophy.

While the debate appeared to be over, it looks like it is an argument that will go on well into the future.
