The Boston Celtics are not out of the picture when it comes to big man Andrew Bogut.

With all indications pointing to center Andrew Bogut joining the Cleveland Cavaliers, reports have surfaced that the veteran big man has not quite made up his mind.  According to Marc Stein of ESPN, Bogut is expected to also meet with San Antonio, Houston and the Boston Celtics before he decides which team to join.

The Celtics were initially rumored to acquire Bogut in a trade, but did not pull the trigger.  Instead, the former No. 1 overall pick was traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Philadelphia 76ers last week for Nerlens Noel.  As expected, Philadelphia waived Bogut on Monday, freeing him up to become a free agent and joining a contender.

More from Boston Celtics

Although joining favorites like the Cavaliers and Spurs is enticing for the 32-year-old veteran, his presence would be more needed in Boston.  The Celtics need a rim protector and a rebounder and Bogut would fulfill those needs, even if just for the remainder of the season.

Bogut also comes with championship experience as he was a member of the Golden State Warriors when they won the championship in 2015.  In his 12th NBA season, he only averaged 3 points and 8.3 rebounds with Dallas this season.

While Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge was hesitant at the trade deadline about bringing in a player and messing with team chemistry, a player like Bogut would be an upgrade from Tyler Zeller or even Amir Johnson.

Bogut would allow Al Horford more freedom to play the stretch four and sure up the team’s defense in the playoffs when the game bogs down into more of a half court pace.

If the interest is mutual, this pick up would be a no-brainer for Ainge.
