Boston Red Sox: David Price Likely To Begin the 2017 Season on Disabled List
The Boston Red Sox will play it safe and pitcher David Price will likely begin the 2017 MLB season on the disabled list with left elbow soreness.
The Boston Red Sox will likely be without their ace to begin the 2017 campaign.
When asked about the status of Boston Red Sox pitcher David Price, manager John Farrell acknowledged that he would not be ready to begin the season.
"“At this point, yeah. It would be hard to see him ready to go at the start of the season.”"
David Price has not yet made a start for the Red Sox in spring training. He’s been shutdown since elbow soreness began on March 1st. The pain came after a simulated game.
Price then traveled to Indiana for a visit with Dr. James Andrews. Reports said that Price would avoid surgery, which had Sox fans breathing a sigh of relief.

As Opening Day approaches, the team would like to get a look at David Price in action before he plays in a regular season game. For that reason, he’ll likely begin the season on the disabled list before making a few Triple-A starts in Pawtucket.
The situation is not ideal, but the Red Sox still have ace Chris Sale and reigning AL Cy Young winner Rick Porcello in the rotation. The duo will have more pressure on them now to begin the season.
Chris Sale will likely be the Opening Day starter as Rick Porcello Bobblehead night comes the next day.
Eduardo Rodriguez, Steven Wright, and Drew Pomeranz should fill out the back end.
The trio has been fighting for the last two spots in the rotation, but with Price out, they’ll all have a slot.
The rotation will still feature three southpaws as Pomeranz essentially replaces Price.
Issues will arise if either of those three cannot go to begin the season. Wright and Pomeranz are both recovering from injuries as well.
Pitching depth drops off as Henry Owens and Brian Johnson would be next in line. Both pitchers were optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday.
