Acquired in a trade with the Carolina Panthers for a third-round pick, defensive end Kony Ealy is excited to join the New England Patriots.

The New England Patriots are going all in on repeating as Super Bowl champs.  With the signing of cornerback Stephon Gilmore and the acquisition of speedy wide receiver Brandin Cooks, Bill Belichick is standing strong by his new slogan “No Days Off.”

Another move that should greatly improve the team is the trade involving defensive end Kony Ealy.  By just giving up a third-round pick, this is a move that qualifies as a low-cost, high-reward type move.  A 2014 second-round pick out of Missouri, the 25-year old Ealy has tallied up 14 sacks in his three seasons in the NFL.

More from New England Patriots

Paired up with breakout star Trey Flowers, the Patriots now have a pair of young, explosive pass rushers who should spend most of their time attacking opposing team’s quarterbacks.

Tom Brady’s impact

Speaking of quarterbacks, Ealy told “Patriots Today,” in an interview that he is excited to share a locker room with quarterback Tom Brady.  Not only will he enjoy trying to sack him in practice, he knows he will learn a lot from the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback.

"“I like getting after quarterbacks,” Ealy said, via NESN.  “Good thing I get to play with one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play and learn from him – he’s going to help me learn how to get to more quarterbacks.”"

The Patriots hope he does get to more quarterbacks.  And as far as joining a team like New England, Kony said he is “very excited” to join such a winning organization.

"“Coming in here, being with a group of guys, a championship-caliber team,” He continued.  “Having an opportunity to learn from these guys and hopefully be there myself, it’s just putting everything together just like God has a plan for me.”"

It looks like the Patriots have a player eager to learn and improve.  Much like Jabaal Sheard did his first season in New England, I can see Kony Ealy having the type of year that elevates his game to new heights.
