FanSided’s App Trigger has run a simulation of the 2017 season in MLB The Show 17, Red Sox fans should hope for a similar real-world outcome.

Opening Day in the MLB is Sunday, but the Boston Red Sox will open things up on Monday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

With Opening Day looming, App Trigger ran a simulation of the entire 2017 MLB season.

Using MLB The Show 17, AppTrigger was able to simulate every regular and postseason game.

"“We performed this simulation by entering Franchise Mode with complete AI control. The AI would make trades, substitute injured players, scout minor leaguers in development, make acquisitions and, most importantly, simulate 162+ ball games for 30 major league baseball clubs.”"

Last season their simulation said the Chicago Cubs would break their curse to win the World Series, so let’s see if it will be correct once again.

AL East Standings

  • x – Boston Red Sox: 94-68, +123 run differential
  • y – Toronto Blue Jays: 87-75, +68 run differential
  • Baltimore Orioles: 80-82, -16 run differential
  • Tampa Bay Rays: 79-83, +10 run differential
  • New York Yankees: 69-93, -145 run differential

The Red Sox did not reach the 100 win number that I myself am predicting, but they were still able to win their division. In the simulation, Boston’s pitching was superb.

"“David Price, Chris Sale, and Rick Porcello each pitched more than 200 innings in the regular season, had more than 160 strikeouts and pitches to an ERA of 3.25 or lower.”"

The closer, Craig Kimbrel, is the pitcher who struggled most. He posted a 6.39 ERA. Luckily Boston had the bats to back up their staff.

"“Five players maintained an OPS above .825, including Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, Hanley Ramirez, Dustin Pedroia and Jackie Bradley Jr.”"

The Boston Red Sox had their second straight Cy Young pitcher, as Chris Sale earned his first. Dustin Pedroia and Mookie Betts took home Gold Gloves.

More from Boston Red Sox

Winning the AL East, the Red Sox found themselves in the postseason once again. The simulation pitted the Sox against the Seattle Mariners in the ALDS, with Boston winning the series 3 games to 2.

In the ALCS Boston faced off against the Cleveland Indians, with hopes to redeem themselves for last year’s poor performance. This time, the Red Sox get the last laugh, sweeping Cleveland in four games.

Back in the World Series again, it’s a 1986 rematch. The Boston Red Sox take on the New York Mets. According to App Trigger’s simulation, Boston wins the series in six games. They win with David Price on the mound and Mookie Betts coming up clutch.

A Red Sox rookie also shines in the postseason.

"Andrew Benintendi was your overall Postseason MVP for the American League, while Yoenis Cespedes was your National League Postseason MVP. Mookie Betts was your World Series MVP, batting .440 and smacking two crucial home runs in late game situations."
