LeGarrette Blount is not done with the New England Patriots.  The veteran running back is currently mulling a contract offer from the team.

The New England Patriots need a power running back and it appears they have turned to the one they have counted on the past few seasons.

According to CSN’s Mike Giardi via Twitter towards the end of last week, the Patriots have an offer on the table for Blount.  Now it is just a matter of whether the money is right for the franchise all-time rushing touchdown leader to return to the defending Super Bowl champions.

The news came just a couple of days after news leaked that the two sides had mutual interest in Blount returning to the team.  It also comes after the 30-year-old running back was seen at TD Garden Wednesday night embracing New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft.

More from New England Patriots

Following a season in which he set career highs with carries (299), yards (1,191) and obviously touchdowns (18), Blount wanted the team to give him some money.  Unfortunately, his free agency experience has not given him much leverage against the Patriots as no other team has shown extreme interest.

Overall, it may just be a matter of time that LeGarrette Blount does return to New England.  However, the team does have alternatives that could prevent the team from upping their offer on the bruising running back.

They recently signed Rex Burkhead last month to go along with Dion Lewis, James White and DJ Foster.  They can also find a complimentary running back in the upcoming NFL draft.

Another option, which may make some fans cringe, is that they can still turn to Adrian Peterson.  The Patriots hosted Peterson last Monday and apparently worked him out during that visit.

With all the additions the New England Patriots have made this offseason, the running back situation is one of the positions it is still worth keeping an eye on.
