The New England Patriots are exploring the restricted free agent market in hopes of finding depth at the defensive end position.

Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots are apparently not done making a splash this offseason.

According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan on Thursday, the defending Super Bowl champions hosted defensive end Kerry Wynn.

The 26-year-old restricted free agent received a low round tender from the New York Giants back in March.  Because of the low tender worth $1.797 million, the Patriots would not have to give up a draft pick if they decided to sign Wynn to an offer sheet.  Like with all restricted free agents, the Giants would have an opportunity to match an offer.

The reported visit comes just two weeks ahead of the NFL Draft where the Patriots are expected to add depth at the defensive end position.  Possibly adding a veteran player like Wynn before the draft could who the team targets and where they make the selection.

More from New England Patriots

Although not a major contributor to the Giants a season ago, Kerry Wynn did provide depth along the defensive line for New York.  At 6-foot-5, 264 pounds, he has the versatility to play defensive end, inside and outside linebacker depending on the defensive formation and personnel on the field.

Because of that versatility, Wynn really makes sense for the Patriots.  Not only would he be a low-cost addition, he would provide the depth the team is looking for behind breakout pass rusher Trey Flowers, newly-acquired DE Kony Ealy and veteran LB/DE Rob Ninkovich.

In 34 career games for the New York Giants, the former undrafted free agent has 82 career tackles and 2.0 sacks over three seasons.

Wynn is the third restricted free agent the New England Patriots reportedly hosted this week.  They also had running backs Mike Gillislee and Damien Williams in for visits this week.
