Jimmy Garoppolo is Staying Put with the New England Patriots
I’ll be honest, I wanted the New England Patriots to trade Jimmy Garoppolo for a first round pick. That isn’t happening tonight.
Any hopes of the New England Patriots sending Jimmy Garoppolo packing have been dashed.
Earlier tonight, the Cleveland Browns drafted defensive end Myles Garrett, but then had their supposed QB of the future, Mitchell Trubisky, stolen by the Chicago Bears.
The Browns then also moved down from their 12th overall pick to the 25th overall pick.

Still, Cleveland could have dealt the 25th pick, 33rd pick and some future picks to New England for Jimmy Garoppolo. It’s not known whether they made the call to Foxboro, but now it doesn’t even matter.
The Browns selected safety Jabril Peppers from Michigan with that 25th pick. That closes the door on any possibility of Garoppolo being dealt.
The Chiefs got Patrick Mahomes, the Texans got DeShaun Watson, and as noted earlier the Bears got Trubisky. Cleveland still needs a QB, but it won’t be Garoppolo. There is no package now that they could put together to satisfy the Patriots.
Jimmy Garoppolo will be the backup for Tom Brady in 2017, that much is known. His future is still unclear in New England though, as you never know how long Brady will play. At some point, I think the reigns need to be handed to Garoppolo, or you need to trade him for all you can get.

The Patriots first pick in this draft will come 72nd overall, but they may attempt to move into the second round tomorrow night.
