Could current Utah Jazz star Gordon Hayward be the next free agent signing for the Boston Celtics?

The Boston Celtics interest in Utah Jazz star Gordon Hayward has been no secret.  For months, there has been rumors in the team acquiring him either through trade or free agency.

According to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Danny Ainge and the Celtics are expected to make a major push to bring Hayward to Boston this summer.  In fact, he says the team will be all in on the former Butler star once free agency begins.

"“Boston could possibly know closer to the draft where they stand with Gordon Hayward, but I think Danny Ainge has not gone ‘all in’ with this group yet,” Wojnarnowski said.  “Having the No. 1 pick this year, and potentially the No. 1 overall pick again next year with Brooklyn’s pick again, he doesn’t have to take that kind of a risk.  I think Boston preserves its cap space and goes really hard after Hayward on July 1.”More from Chowder and Champions3 Midseason Chaim Bloom Decisions That Have Killed the 2023 Red Sox10 Patriots Who Will Be Cut by Tuesday’s Roster DeadlineMLB Screws Red Sox Fans With Broadcast for Mookie Betts Return3 Most Underpaid Celtics Heading Into the 2023 SeasonRed Sox Continue Rollercoaster Season With Massive Win"

The 27-year-old scorer would be a welcomed addition to a team that has made it to the Eastern Conference Finals this season.

If Boston is able to lure him out of Utah, Gordon Hayward would also reunite with his former college coach Brad Stevens.  The Celtics current need for a second scorer as well as this connection with Stevens are main reasons why this potential marriage is a strong possibility.

While the Celtics have been promising fireworks for a couple seasons now, their ability to sign Hayward along with making their No. 1 pick would improve the team vastly with just doing that.

However, a team could come along and give Ainge an offer for that No. 1 pick he can’t resist.  That would make a potential Gordon Hayward signing that much more attractive. If the team adds two proven stars to a team led by Isaiah Thomas and Al Horford, they could get that much closer to competing with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
