Anders Bjork had to choose between returning to Notre Dame or joining the Boston Bruins. In 2017, he’ll be lacing his skates on Causeway.

The Boston Bruins have been anxiously awaiting a decision from Anders Bjork for the future. If he had chosen to return to Notre Dame for his senior season, he would have been eligible to become an NHL free agent. That fear is gone now for Boston, as Bjork signed a three-year entry-level deal with the club.

While Boston would have liked Bjork to join them in the playoffs, he took the time to make this decision. He also played in the World Championships before making his choice.

Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney understands why Bjork took so long to make a decision but is certainly glad to have him on the team now.

It was a difficult decision for Anders and his family for him to leave Notre Dame and we respected his timetable to make the best decision for himself. Anders certainly possesses the attributes needed to play in today’s NHL. He has speed, skill, terrific hockey sense and outstanding character.”"

Bjork was selected in the 5th round of the 2014 NHL Draft by the Bruins. He would have been taken higher if teams knew how much he would improve while at Notre Dame. As a sophomore, he had 35 points in 35 games, but things really took off for him as a junior, where he had 52 points over 39 games.

In camp, Bjork will have a chance to earn a spot on the second line on the left wing with David Krejci. Jake DeBrusk, Danton Heinen, and Peter Cehlarik will be his competition for it. Bjork is the second young player to join the club for 2017, as Charlie McAvoy debuted in the playoffs.

The Wisconsin native may not have a huge impact immediately, but over time he’s expected to develop into a solid NHL player.
