The Bill Belichick coaching tree continues to grow and this time it’s with another family member. Brian Belichick will be promoted to coaching assistant with the New England Patriots.

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald broke the news on twitter that Brian Belichick will be joining the New England Patriots coaching staff this season.

Brian will join his father Bill, the head coach, and his brother Steve, the safeties coach, on the staff.

Brian Belichick will likely fill a void that was left for an offensive after Nick Caley was promoted to be the tight ends coach. Caley moved up after Brian Daboll was lost to the University of Alabama.

As noted in Howe’s tweet, Brian had previously been a scouting assistant for New England. He spent just one year as a scout and will now join the family coaching business. I’d expect him to move into a position coach role in the next few seasons, like his brother Steve who was a coaching assistant from 2012-2015 before moving up.

More from New England Patriots

Many will think that Steve and Brian receive special treatment or that they are handed jobs because of who thir father is. At the Super Bowl in February Steve made it clear that he doesn’t care what the media thinks. Brian probably feels the same way.

"“Everybody has heard it. Life isn’t fair. I don’t expect it to be. I like to work for what I get. I’ll always be Bill Belichick’s son to everybody in the media, but to the people who really matter — my friends and family. I am Steve, so those are the people I care about. I could care less about everybody else.”"

Players love to play for Bill and Steve, so hopefully Brian can follow suite. Could one of the Belichick sons be the Patriots head coach in the future?

Brian will have to pull his weight to make it on his father’s staff. He’ll likely spend hours cutting and preparing tape for the team, and any other task assigned by the many coaches above him. I highly doubt that Bill let’s his sons take the easy road to coaching.
