Boston Bruins extend point streak to 13 games in OT loss
By Sam Minton
Even in the loss, the Boston Bruins extended their point streak to 13 games.
The Boston Bruins haven’t lost a game in regulation in 12 straight games. They extended their streak on Monday as they were able to take the Dallas Stars to overtime. They ended up losing to the Stars 3-2 in overtime.
The first period was uneventful in the scoring column, but the Bruins did have some chances. The Bruins had two powerplay opportunities but were unable to convert. Anton Khudobin was looking solid in net, but that all changed in the second period.
The Bruins allowed two goals in the period. Khudobin allowed a rocket from Stephen Johns to get by his glove side, and then later in the second allowed a goal off the face-off to Alexander Radulov. Khudobin gave up a juicy rebound and Radulov was able to get it by “Dobby” to extend the Stars lead to 2-0.
Then late in the second period, the Bruins were able to get on the scoreboard. Zdeno Chara blasted a slap shot from the face-off circle for his 4th goal of the season. Then in the third period, the Bruins were able to complete the comeback scoring the lone goal in the period. Ryan Spooner launched a slap shot from the blue line and it deflected off a defender and into the net. The goal was Spooner’s 5th of the season.
In overtime, the Bruins ended up getting the loss handed to them by one of their former players. Tyler Seguin in a beautiful presentation of patience maneuvered through Bruins defenders, waited for Khudobin to make a move, and completed the play with a goal.
Khudobin can’t get the win yet again

Ever since he went back to his role as the backup goaltender, Khudobin has struggled in net. He made some impressive saves and really helped the team salvage a point, but sometimes he is out of position and that can cause some unnecessary goals. This almost happened against the Stars when he was going behind the net when he might have wanted to let a defender get the puck. Radulov would have had another goal if it wasn’t for Khudobin making a point-blank save.
The Bruins did gather a point and still sit at third place in the Eastern Conference which is a pretty good place to be at before the all-star break. The Boston Bruins have struggled in overtime this year as they are 1-6 this season. Ryan Spooner sees one problem that definitely makes it hard to score in the 3-on-3 format.
"“It seems like we don’t have the puck a lot,” said Spooner. “The game against Washington, I think we might’ve touched the puck one or two times, and then tonight we had a couple looks but it wasn’t good enough.”"
