The 5 greatest Boston Celtics guards of all time
By Ryan Feyre
5. Rajon Rondo
One of my favorite early Boston Celtics memories was watching Youtube highlights of Rajon Rondo dialing up some of the most exciting passes that I’ve ever seen. He may be over-dramatic sometimes (notably during the 2007-08 reunion debacle), but you can’t deny his stellar point guard play from 2006-15.

He was a successful point guard who couldn’t shoot on a championship team, which is rare in the modern NBA. In nine seasons with the C’s, he averaged 11 points per game and 8.5 assists per game. When his minutes spiked from 2008-14, he averaged a double-double three times, and almost did it again in the 2014-15 season. He was also a defensive stalwart, as he was a part of two All-Defensive second teams.
He’s one of the few players in history to produce flashy passes while having the stats to back it up. He won the 2007-08 title as the starter, averaging 10.6 ppg and 5.6 apg. While those numbers don’t jump out as much, Rondo was still a key distributor for Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. He only played 29 minutes per game that year.
He also lead an older Boston Celtics team to the 2010 NBA Finals, and lost in seven. That’s still impressive for a guard who wasn’t known for his elite scoring.
