New England Patriots: All signs point to Johnny Manziel
By Sam Minton
The New England Patriots were among the teams who went to Johnny Manziel’s pro day at Texas A&M.
This isn’t a post from 2014 as you may suspect. Johnny Manziel had his 2nd pro day at Texas A&M on Tuesday, and the New England Patriots were among a large group of teams who were in attendance to watch Manziel and the Aggie draft class. Manziel seems to have caught the Patriots attention as the team spoke with him before and after his workout.
Scouts are giving rave reviews about Manziel with one scout saying that Manziel looked better than he did in 2014.
The Patriots and Johnny Football have a long history. Manziel’s first pre-draft visit was to New England. This workout is the 2nd time that the Patriots have looked at Manziel this offseason. It looks like the Patriots are interested in bringing Manziel in.

These workouts are apart of Manziel’s comeback tour. He is clean, and not the crazy partygoer that he used to be. If Manziel looks better than he did when he came out of college the Patriots may be a great fit for him.
He would get to study under Tom Brady. That’s like having Michael Jordan teach you how to be a great basketball player. With Brady being the teacher, Manziel would learn how to do everything the right way. Also having the greatest head coach of all time doesn’t hurt either.
Manziel has a great arm and can escape pass rushers when the pocket collapses. If he is as good as scouts are saying he is I would argue he is better than Brian Hoyer.
A competition to back up Brady would be perfect for Manziel. He is already motivated to prove all of his naysayers wrong, a QB competition would only increase that motivation.
The Patriots signed Tim Tebow. That shows that the organization believes that if you can help the team out they will give you a chance, no matter who you are. Manziel could be an improved backup, and possibly a starter once Tom Brady retires.
