For the first time since the news of his suspension broke, New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman gave a statement to his fans on Instagram.

Ever since the news of Julian Edelman’s 4 game suspension broke fans have been hoping that a mistake was made. Edelman was a fan favorite and seemed incapable of doing wrong. Now the New England Patriots appear to be without Edelman’s services for the first 4 weeks of the season.

Alex Guerrero, the head of the TB12 clinic has jumped in front and said he isn’t to blame. Edelman has now finally spoken and he is as shocked as the rest of us.

"“I am very sorry — I don’t know what happened,” Edelman wrote on his Instagram story on Friday. “I’ve taken many, many tests obviously over the course of my career, and nothing like this has ever happened. I apologize to the Kraft family, my coaches, teammates and fans. As this matter is being appealed, I can’t say anymore but no matter what, I will be ready to play and pursue another championship with our team and for Patriots fans around the world.”"

The truth will come out

More from New England Patriots

Now with the string of steroid suspensions in the MLB in the 2000’s we have become kind of numb to the “I don’t know what happened” excuse. These guys are the top athletes in the world and know they are being watched. How do you not know that you used an illegal substance?

Edelman is appealing the ban so there is some credence to the belief that he isn’t guilty, but it may be too late. He will always be attached to the allegation, and this allegation will follow him throughout the rest of his career.

Every day it seems like another piece is being added to the already confusing puzzle that is the New England Patriots offseason.

The dust will settle when the results of Edelman’s suspension comes out, but for now Patriots fans can only sit and wait.
