Boston Celtics: 3 free agent targets to fill out roster
By Sam Minton
Jamal Crawford
Jamal Crawford may go down as one of the top bench players to ever play the game. Crawford has been in the NBA for what seems like an eternity and could definitely help out the Celtics.
Crawford is a great offensive player. In his career, he is averaging 15 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists a game. Those numbers may not jump off the screen, but when you realize that Crawford has only been a starter for 5 of his 18 seasons, you can see his potential to be a spark plug off the bench.
Last season wasn’t Crawford’s best. He averaged 10.3 points and 2.3 assists per game. Since Crawford struggled, the Celtics may be able to get him at a discounted rate.
Crawford isn’t getting any younger and has yet to win an NBA championship. As the guard nears 40, he must be realizing that he will soon have to retire. If he wants to get that elusive championship he will have to sign with a contender.
I don’t think the Golden State Warriors will be knocking on Crawford’s door anytime soon. The Celtics are the best team for Crawford to join.
Now Crawford has never been known for his defense. That may have Celtics fans wanting to shy away from him, but not so fast my friends. Do you not remember who our head coach is? I’m pretty sure Brad Stevens could make Crawford at the minimum a serviceable defenseman.
I definitely wouldn’t mind having a great shooter like Crawford coming off the bench for the Celtics
