Jamal Crawford in a Boston Celtics uniform?  The sharp-shooting veteran would consider joining the green if he is bought out.

After winning the Gordon Hayward sweepstakes, the Boston Celtics could be in the running for another big name.

According to Basketball Insiders’ Michael Scotto on Thursday, 37-year-old veteran guard Jamal Crawford would consider joining the green if he is bought out by the Hawks following a three-team trade that sent him from the L.A. Clippers to Atlanta.

Of course, this would depend on how much of a discount Crawford would be willing to take.  The Celtics are currently in the process of clearing cap space to make room for Hayward.  The team is shopping players like Jae Crowder, Avery Bradley, Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier to do so.

Why would Boston be a possibility?

Crawford, who played last season with the  Clippers, is towards the end of his career.  Joining a team with a chance to win a title could be appealing.  With the Celtics new big three of Hayward, Isaiah Thomas and Al Horford, the Celtics could be in position to do so by adding a couple of pieces.

The aging, but still efficient veteran, would be a nice addition off the bench.  His three-point shooting and ability to create his own shot would be ideal in Brad Stevens system.

In 2016-17 with the Clippers, he averaged 12.3 points, 2.6 assists and 1.6 rebounds in 26.3 minutes played.  He definitely still has that scoring touch and could be a lethal option off any contending team’s bench.

Other teams in the mix include the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Washington Wizards and Milwaukee Bucks.  Of those teams, the Cavaliers  and Celtics could be the most appealing if Crawford is aiming for a chance to play in the NBA Finals.
