Sony Michel had a rough game

The New England Patriots really wanted to establish the running game on Sunday night. That’s something you don’t really expect.

Sony Michel had a night that he probably wishes he could forget. Michel had 14 carries for 50 yards. He dropped easy catches multiple times and just couldn’t get anything going on the ground.

Now I don’t think Michel deserves all the blame. He showed some promise and had some quality runs. One of the things you realize right away is that defenders bounce off Michel.

Josh McDaniels deserves a good chunk of the blame. His playcalling was garbage. He didn’t give Michel a chance to succeed. Multiple times he ran no huddle run plays on 3rd down that made no sense. Also late in the 3rd quarter and in the middle of the 4th the Patriots were still trying to establish the run.

Why would you do that Josh? The run game wasn’t working. You need to air the ball out and try to score quickly. Indianapolis Colts fans are probably really happy McDaniels decided to stay in New England.

The Patriots need to have a much better performance in Week 3 or else their season may be in trouble.
