Boston Celtics: 3 storylines to watch during 2018-19 season
3. Will trader Danny make a big move?
The rumor every season is what is going on with Danny Ainge? Seemingly every week a new player is in the sights of the Boston Celtics brass, but nothing seems to ever come to fruition. This hasn’t really hurt the Celtics though, as their last trade, of course, netted them Kyrie Irving.
Ainge is really big on chemistry and has shown countless times he values that over a star acquisition. He refused to deal Terry Rozier and Marcus Smart due to the fact he thought they meant a lot to the team and brought great continuity.
The Boston Celtics have a surplus of talent, but improving is always an option. Aron Baynes and Horford are solid defensive big men, but not real rim protectors. Rookie Robert Williams is still extremely raw, and probably won’t get much playing time.
This means that the Celtics could trade for a big man in the meantime using a pick or one of their many guards (most likely Terry Rozier). There are so many options available, but will Danny bite?
It recently came out that the Suns tried to acquire Rozier before adding Jamal Crawford, but the Celtics didn’t bite. Now the Suns don’t have a ton to offer the Celtics, but they do have draft picks and it is interesting to note that once again Danny stayed true to his word.
Will Ainge make a huge move? Probably not. But a move that could enhance his team’s talents is definitely likely and could make the Boston Celtics even more lethal, and that much more likely to hang banner number 18. No matter the end result of this season, it promises to be a fun one and I can’t wait to watch it all unfold.
