Bouncing back from a near 20-loss season, Porcello posted a 17-7 record with a 4.28 ERA. Unlike Eduardo Rodriguez, however, Porcello was available for all his starts and actually did pitch a complete game.
While he was not as good consistently as his 22-win season, Rick Porcello did display Cy Young worthy performances in a few starts. He also showed he could deliver at the plate as a hitter during Interleague play.
By throwing more strikeouts in 2018, Rick Porcello was simply a pitcher just getting the job done. He wasn’t as dominant as a healthy Chris Sale nor does he have the stuff of a David Price, but he gave the team innings more consistently than any other pitcher on the staff.
Porcello also played a big role out of the bullpen in the playoffs, further demonstrating that he will do whatever the team asks of him and do it well.
