Super Bowl Sunday will be arriving soon and if the New England Patriots want to bring home the Lombardi Trophy, they need to do these 5 things.

The day that we have all been waiting for is getting closer. Soon we will be watching the New England Patriots attempt to win their 6th Super Bowl.

New England has been on an amazing run. We as Patriots fans should consider ourselves lucky. Imagine being a Cleveland Browns fan?

This game won’t be easy. The Los Angeles Rams are a great football team. You could probably argue that they are better than last year’s Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

LA has a high powered offense that could cause problems for the Patriots defense. They have multiple stars who could take over a game.

On the other side of the ball, the Rams could make Sunday a long night for Tom Brady. Aaron Donald is an absolute beast who can blow up a play in an instant. If the Patriots can’t control Donald the Patriots offense will struggle a lot.

The New England Patriots will have to be on top of their game if they want to win it all. Anything but their best effort will lead to disappointment all over New England (and joy across the rest of the world).

So if the New England Patriots want to win the Super Bowl they need to do these 5 things.

1. Establish the run game

I want the New England Patriots to establish the run game early in Super Bowl LIII. We all know that Tom Brady can work his magic and tear apart a defense, but if New England can establish the run game it will make his life a lot easier.

Sony Michel has been amazing so far in the postseason. He has 53 carries for 242 yards and 5 touchdowns. That is pretty impressive for a rookie.

Michel is an absolute beast. He can run over players and has some great speed. Michel has also been blessed with some great play from his offensive line.

If the run game wants to succeed the Patriots offensive line will have to deal with the monster that is Aaron Donald. He is the only player stopping the Patriots from succeeding on the ground.

A good day in the Super Bowl for Sony Michel will most likely mean that the rookie will be going home with a Super Bowl ring.

2. Score early

I think a major key for the New England Patriots is scoring early on in the game. The Patriots shouldn’t be cautious and safe. I want to see them try and put away the Rams before they can get any momentum.

If the Patriots are too cautious they can let the Rams stay in the game and have a chance to win. I think if New England is able to get up by 2 or 3 touchdowns early, Pats fans can actually enjoy watching the game. It’s not like the Patriots are the Atlanta Falcons.

The Rams also don’t have a ton of Super Bowl experience. They may not know how to react going down early in the game. This is Jared Goff‘s first Super Bowl. He still has a lot to prove.

So I think if the New England Patriots are able to score early they will be able to beat the LA Rams before they even have a chance to retaliate.

3. Control Todd Gurley

The LA Rams most dangerous weapon on offense is Todd Gurley. If the running back is able to run over the Patriots defense it could be a long night.

More from Super Bowl LIII

Gurley was an absolute beast this season. This season was the best of his career. Gurley racked up 17 touchdowns and 1,251 rushing yards as well as 59 catches for 580 yards and 4 touchdowns.

The entire defense will have to deal with Gurley. The front 7 needs to make sure he isn’t able to break off long runs. It will be interesting to see who ends up covering Gurley when he goes out for a pass. That doesn’t sound like a fun challenge.

If Gurley has a big game it will spell trouble for Patriots fans. We have seen New England’s defense handle high powered offense’s before, but the Super Bowl is a completely different animal.

Todd Gurley could be a thorn in the sides of the New England Patriots defense.

4. Tackle

This may seem like a simple task but the New England Patriots defense proved quite the opposite in last year’s Super Bowl.

The Patriots defense looked awful last year. Eagles wide receivers were running free all over the field and some plays that could have only gone for a few yards went for big gains.

These big plays can’t happen against the LA Rams. We saw what happens when the Patriots defense lets up these big plays. It takes a heroic effort from Tom Brady to even have a chance to win. I don’t know if Brady can have another amazing 500-yard performance as he did against the Eagles.

So the defense needs to make sure that short passes and runs up the middle aren’t going for 5-10 yards. They need to keep the ball carrier in front of them and not allow the big gains that plagued them in the past.

5. Get to the quarterback

If the New England Patriots can get to Jared Goff it will most likely lead to a victory. We saw the Patriots get Patrick Mahomes rattled early on in the AFC Championship, but can they do it in the Super Bowl?

The Patriots are going to need some great performances from their defensive line. I will want to see Trey Flowers and Adrian Clayborn in the backfield a lot on Sunday.

In the AFC Championship, we saw Kyle Van Noy have an amazing game. Van Noy had 10 tackles, 2 sacks, and a forced fumble. He was all over the field and was just dominating on every play.

If the Patriots can get to Goff it will make life very hard for the Rams offense. The Patriots could sit back, wait for the run, and focus on stopping Todd Gurley.

This Super Bowl looks like it will be a fun one for Patriots fans.
