On Monday night, Jayson Tatum did something that no other Boston Celtics player in franchise history has ever done.

In the Boston Celtics win over the Dallas Mavericks at TD Garden Monday night, Jayson Tatum shot 1-18 (5.5 percent) from the field, which is the first time a Celtics player has ever had that many shot attempts and made one or fewer baskets.

It isn’t the only abysmal shooting performance tied to the Celtics as Frank Ramsey shot 0-15 from the field back in 1960, which to date is the most shot attempts in team history without a make.

Ray Allen came close when he shot 0-13 in Game 3 of the 2008 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers, one game after a dominant 32 point performance.

More from Boston Celtics

Sam Jones and Gordon Hayward both had 1-17 from the field performances, Jones in 1964 and Hayward as a member of the Utah Jazz in 2013.

After the game, Tatum posted on Snapchat that he was at the Red Auerbach Center working on his shot with the caption “Gotta be able to laugh at ya self sometime! Glad we won! on to next.”

Luckily for Tatum, the Celtics were carried by monster performances by Kemba Walker (29/5/5) and Jaylen Brown (25/3/11) in the 116-106 victory.

With the they improved to 8-1 (now 9-1 following Wednesday night’s win over the Washington Wizards), which is good enough for the best record in the NBA.  The Celtics also stretch their current winning streak to nine consecutive games with Wednesday’s victory.

It is hard to imagine that Tatum will ever have that bad of a performance again, but let’s keep our fingers crossed just in case.

With Gordon Hayward out for six weeks after breaking his hand and successfully undergoing surgery, the Boston Celtics will need Tatum to be able to contribute more on offense, although the emergence of Jaylen Brown as a consistent offensive weapon has been a nice surprise.

There is really no need to panic with Jayson Tatum. He had an off night, which happens to the best of them and his mindset seems to be just what he needs to shake it off and keep rolling.
