When it comes to the New England Patriots and Bill Belichick, the national media hysteria runs wild whenever a potential scandal arises.

Let’s start this off by saying that the New England Patriots organization and head coach Bill Belichick have created all the ridicule and outrageous overreactions they are now enduring due to previous transgressions.

No matter how you feel as a Patriots fans, the team continuously put themselves in this position whether it is intended or non-intended.  With two decades of dominance under their belt, the opposition has become paranoid with how they continue to be on top in the era of free agency and during a time in the NFL where no other team stays on top for more than a few seasons.

They must be cheating!

While NFL teams, players and the national media will admit Bill Belichick and Tom Brady are the greatest at what they do, those same outlets will take something minor and run with it as a reason why they are that great.  That’s where what we are now calling “Spygate 2.0” comes in.

More from New England Patriots

After footage was released of a New England Patriots videographer getting caught by Cincinnati Bengals security filming the team’s sideline, Belichick and the six-time Super Bowl champions instantly turned into masterminds of another cheating scheme once again.

Had this been any other team in the league, this story wouldn’t see the light of day.  But, come on, it’s the Patriots!

Although Bill Belichick is adamant he didn’t have any knowledge of this videotaping of a 1-13 football team, the national outrage has grown laughable.  Fine them, take a way draft picks are one thing.  But NFL pundits like ESPN’s Max Kellerman is calling for Belichick’s head, which in reality is only going to fuel the coach into another “New England vs. Everybody” steamroll through the playoffs.

Here’s Kellerman’s outrage on Monday’s First Take, as transcribed by WEEI.

"“Pending the investigation, which, unless it’s completely incompetent, will reveal obviously that the Patriots are cheating and then lying about it, you need to suspend Bill Belichick.  Not just forfeit draft picks.  Belichick has already shown he can still beat you with forfeiting draft picks.  He can win the Super Bowl forfeiting draft picks.  You have to suspend Bill Belichick, who’s the GM and the coach.  And the idea that things are happening in that organization like this and he’s not aware is laughable.  It’s laughable.”"

What’s really laughable is the national media outrage of a film that shows a sideline that can be seen on television.  What possible advantage does Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots get from watching players backs?

Go ahead, suspend Bill Belichick and watch this team ignite like no other.  What will Max Kellerman go for next?  Banish the New England Patriots from the league for stupidity?  That narrative is already out there.

While Patriots haters will push the cheating narrative and Patriots lovers will defend their team, objectively what advantage are they gaining?

Seriously?  What more can they get from filming a sideline than the Baltimore Ravens with their 360 view of the entire field, including the opposing team’s sidelines?

It’s simple, the New England Patriots violated a league policy.  Nothing more, nothing less.

Fine them and move on.  But, the outrage from people like Max Kellerman is not about potential cheating.  It’s all about ratings, especially when the NFL news cycle is slow.
