Fourth round, No. 98 overall: Antonio Gibson, Running back, Memphis

A previous article postulated that the New England Patriots 2019 season was significantly negatively impacted by the lack of a capable short-yardage back. Read: big back who could get a yard or two to extend a drive or punch the ball into the ned zone to preclude a field goal attempt.

The Patriots didn’t have that back and paid a severe price. This long with a few other deficiencies cost them their season. One big back with tremendous speed who could remedy this and perhaps other deficiencies is Antonio Gibson of Memphis. Gibson is not only versatile, but he is lightning quick.

Gibson is pegged as a wide receiver by nfl.com, but he is also projected as a running back. Nice versatility there. He ran an otherworldly 4.39 40-yard dash and at 228 pounds. At 228 pounds, he certainly fits the bill for a “big’ running back that is an absolute necessity for the New England Patriots to add this offseason. To sum it up, Gibson is a perfect fit for this new dynamic Patriot offense.

If the New England Patriots indeed refashion their offense completely, Gibson along with Hurts and Bowden, will be a big problem for NFL defenses.
