Sixth round, No. 125 overall: Collin Johnson, wide receiver, Texas

Keeping with the offensive flavor of this draft wish list, the New England Patriots fourth-round pick is Collin Johnson of Texas.

It’s been the goal of this exercise from the outset to provide the Patriots with a new, dynamic set of offensive skill players who will drive the Patriots into a new era of football excellence with a newly created multi-faceted and multi-functional offense.

To this point, we have provided the Patriots with a plethora of offensive talent to fit this new offense. But, to augment its capabilities, this choice provides a more conventional but equally interesting addition to the wide receiver corps. Collin Johnson from Texas.

One feature separating Johnson from the previous selections, is size. He’s a very tall wide receiver. nfl.com has him at 6’6″ tall and at 222 pounds. This will be an asset to the new Patriots’ offense. There’s an old saying in sports, “You can’t teach size”. The Patriots won’t have to teach that to Collin Johnson. He’s learned that lesson well.

The mobility of both the quarterback and the receivers/running backs in this draft presents all kinds of problems for the defense. But having a receiver as tall as Johnson provides a safety valve for any of the above who are passers to get positive yards even out of a broken play.

Summary

This is an update of a Mock Draft Wish list published previously. It seeks to provide an alternative blueprint for the first four rounds should the New England Patriots seek to totally revitalize their offense. There are no illusions that this plan will be implemented by the Patriots.

But if it were, you would likely see an offense like none possibly ever seen before in the NFL. And the excitement level would frankly be off the charts. The draft is in a few days. We will see how they choose to proceed.
