Not much for New England Patriots fans to be excited about in 2020

That’s the offense. Not a great story. Unless you think Jarrett Stidham is the next Brady, they are not likely to score more than 15 points per game in my view.

And they did really nothing to add to fan excitement after losing the all-time best. Little in free agency, the draft, or anywhere else.

So that’s the story from this vantage point. I’m not seeing it for the Patriots in 2020. The rest of NFL fandom is relishing the thought of the downfall of the arrogant Patriots. Can’t really blame them. For two decades the Patriots have stomped on the entire NFL.

But now, the main stomper has left for Tampa Bay. As I have called him, the great safety valve. Making up for all the Patriots personnel mismanagement along the 20-year way.

After making a terrible decision, the least the Patriots management should have done was to make a considerable effort to bring in talent to try to make up for the deficiencies this loss would eventuate. They didn’t.

Instead, they signed no-name free agents. They drafted reportedly from a list of only 35-40 players who were worthy of their selection from among the 2000 available players.

And they have hitched their wagon to a 4-pass experienced NFL quarterback to try to replace the best of all-time when a former NFL MVP quarterback who is only 31 years old was available for the signing.

So, how does that sound? Right. Not so good, because it isn’t. It portrays an arrogance of mindset that we have seen for 2 decades in New England. But, there was always No. 12 to save them from themselves. Now he’s gone.

The 2020 season is going to so interesting to watch. Are they tanking as their offseason suggests? Are they just relying on basically a rookie to lead the team? Are they hoping that no names are going to reinvigorate an offensive cast that even Brady couldn’t get to perform?

My answer is, I have no idea. All I can say is this, if they were seriously seeking to try to maintain a competitive team, it doesn’t look like their offseason succeeded to me.

Next. Pats will be fine without crowds. dark

I hope they go 12-4. But is anyone willing to bet the farm on that?

I didn’t think so.
