Former Boston Red Sox slugger Mookie Betts did something Thursday night the team and fans remember quite well and will surely miss.

While the Boston Red Sox were getting pummeled by the Tampa Bay Rays to the tone of 17-8, Mookie Betts was putting on a Hollywood show quite worth the 12-year, $365 million contract extension he signed prior to the deal.

In an 11-2 route of the San Diego Padres, Betts showcased his power with another classic three-homer game, which Red Sox fans are quite familiar with.

Overall, the Los Angeles Dodgers smashed six homeruns, but it was the swing of Mookie Betts that set the tone and rubbed a little salt in the wound of Red Sox fans who are hoping Alex Verdugo will one day provide the offensive punch of the former American League MVP.

In all, Betts went 4-for-4 along with the 3 homers that gives him a total of 7 on the season, proving that he is only primed to get better out there in L.A.

"“I put in so much work,” Betts said, via ESPN.  “I work a lot.  To see some success is definitely a sigh of relief, but I know I have a lot more work to do.  It’s a long season.  Obviously, we want to win a World Series, and so I’m working just do to that.”"

With that hard work obviously paying off for Betts and the Dodgers, could this be the modern version of the curse of the Bambino for the Boston Red Sox?

Well, since Betts has been traded, it’s been nothing but bad luck for the Sox.  Not only have they lost their ace, Chis Sale for the season, they have lost Eduardo Rodriguez and have some of their big bats struggling in the lineup.

While Verdugo, one of the players acquired in the Betts deal, offered a glimpse of star power with his recent play, the season appears very dim for the Boston Red Sox which could result in even more stars being traded.

That’s the cost when you trade a player like Mookie Betts.

The Los Angeles Dodgers knew what kind of player they were getting in Mookie Betts, but perhaps they didn’t know the power they were getting.

Dynamic offensively and defensively, Betts is both a game-setter and game-changer the Red Sox desperately miss.  At just 27 years old, he is a player who has had the kind of special nights he had for the Dodgers in the 13-7 victory.

Five times has he hit three homers in a game with the Red Sox.  With Thursday night being a record-tying sixth overall, Betts entered the record books as it was the third time he hit three home runs in the first five innings of a game.
