After his showing on Tuesday, Jarrett Stidham has only proved that he shouldn’t be the New England Patriots starter.

It seemed that Jarrett Stidham was about to get the keys to the New England Patriots offense. Sadly for Stidham that isn’t the case anymore.

New England signed Cam Newton and everything changed. In an instant, Stidham lost his starting job.

Newton is a former MVP. He led the Carolina Panthers to a Super Bowl appearance. Newton is such a dynamic player with his arm strength and running ability. It’s insane some of the stuff he can do on a football field.

The Patriots want to keep up the illusion that the QB position is up for grabs, but in reality, it’s not. As long as  Newton is healthy, he should be the starter.

Some have argued that Stidham could go out and impress Bill Belichick. Some said that he had more experience in New England. Could that give him an edge?

Well after Tuesday’s practice it seems like Stidham still has a long way to go.

It also feels important to note that two of Stidham’s interceptions came on back to back plays. Not exactly the most exciting stat line from Stidham there.

Also one of Stidham’s interceptions was a poorly underthrown ball. Could Stidham’s arm strength be an issue? It seemed like it wouldn’t be but these training camp results are rather concerning.

Also as Howe mentioned, Newton’s arm appears to be in great condition. It seems like he is already showing that there is no doubt that he should be the starter.

Hopefully, Newton continues to get more reps and New England treats him like the starter. You would like to see Newton get a bit more reps than Stidham and Brian Hoyer.

So it looks like Newton is just the quarterback that New England needs. From what we have seen so far from Stidham, he still needs time to mature and grow as a player.

New England has their starter and while some fans seemed to hope that Stidham would be under center he simply isn’t ready.
