Scott Zolak seems to believe that Jarrett Stidham will still be the starter, but as long as he is healthy Cam Newton will be the quarterback for the New England Patriots.

It’s hard to imagine New England Patriots fans disagreeing with Scott Zolak but for once the exciting radio personality and color commentator is wrong.

The entire outlook of the 2020 season changed with one signing. As soon as Cam Newton became a member of the Patriots things changed.

That’s what happens when you get a dual-threat former NFL MVP at quarterback. A season that looked destined for mediocrity now has hope.

Still, it’s fair to say that there will be a position battle at the beginning of training camp. Jarrett Stidham still has a shot to be the starter.

We could see Newton get hurt so New England would have no other choice but to name Stidham a starter. Also, we could see Stidham perform so well that he actually beats out Newton for the job.

But right now Newton is healthy. He seems as determined as he has ever been in his entire career. It wouldn’t be surprising if Newton has a great year in New England.

So that is why it’s so surprising to hear Zolak say that Stidham will be the starter.

"“I believe Jarrett is going to be the starter from the people that I talk to, the people that I trust: the players, people tied to the team, team captains,” Zolak predicted. “The way they speak of Jarrett Stidham and the work he has put in.”"

As much as Zo might believe in that statement it’s just not true. A player that has never started a game does not have a better chance to start than a former MVP.

We have even seen Newton quickly bond with his teammates. When he signed, a bunch of players went to social media to show how pumped they were. Newton has also worked out with various wide receivers already.

So Stidham has a chance, but right now everyone will say that Newton is the favorite to win the job. You would be completely ignoring Newton’s past success if you think he will be the backup.
