The 2020 season is toast for the Boston Red Sox. It’s not just toast, it’s burnt toast and it’s not going to taste any better after the August 31 trade deadline.

The 2020 Boston Red Sox season is history and no one really cares.

For Chaim Bloom, that’s actually a good thing. What it means for Bloom is this, he can trade anyone he wants and it doesn’t make one iota of difference. This club as currently constituted is a disgrace, and anything he does is likely to improve it.

So go ahead, improve it!

Two suggestions for you.

First, trade opportunities should be there. The advice from this observer to Mr. Chaim Bloom is – be bold! Go for it. Do what you think is right. Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead! Why not?

Most general managers get canned anyway. So why not take the initiative, remake the team in your image, and see how it goes.

If it works, you’ll be an icon in Boston and can take your pick of any other jobs that might arise. (Though, how many jobs are better than Boston?). If it doesn’t, your network will take care of you and your current contract will support you. Makes perfect sense. Just go for it!

So where to go from here?

Easy.

The Red Sox need to seek any and all opportunities to add young, uninjured, and promising talent to the organization, no matter the cost. But make the current contenders pay heavily. Take their top talents from them in return for your major league guys.

And you have players to trade. Jackie Bradley, Jr. is easy. Christian Vazquez also. Good players, and good guys who should bring good prospects in return. Then, the top stars.

Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers, and J.D. Martinez are at the top of the list. Your best players. Any of which can be traded if the return is something Bloom can’t refuse.

Then, of course they have to see what they have amongst their top prospects, which obviously includes top prospect Triston Casas.

Maybe that kid won’t flop and will be a cornerstone of next year’s club. Or, even if one or more do flop in September, if they have the grit, the steel to be a top major league players, they’ll take that as a challenge and try that much harder to be great when they get another chance in spring training.

It’s time to make the moves. This season is history. Bad History. The future begins now. Make the tough calls, the big trades. Take a chance. It can’t get any worse than it is now. And it may get a whole lot better. Go for it. Carpe diem.
