New England Patriots: 5 players now the face of the organization in 2020
Stephon Gilmore is the New England Patriots silent leader on the field
As the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, of course Stephon Gilmore is one of the faces of the organization. And don’t be surprise if the New England Patriots shutdown corner is in the conversation again in 2020.
In leading one of the team’s best and strongest groups, it is what Gilmore does on the field that makes him the ultimate Patriots players.
He may not always be in the conversation as a top cornerback in the league because he is not an outspoken diva, but the talking he does with his production on the field is the value a coach like Bill Belichick looks for.
“Gilmore Island?”
It really has been the last couple of seasons. Gilmore has shut down some of the best receivers in the NFL and will continue to do so in 2020, especially with a young emerging cornerback on the other side of the field in J.C. Jackson.
In fact, it is how Stephon Gilmore attacks the game that has influenced and inspired the undrafted third-year cornerback and a silent leadership that will be the MVP of that defense throughout the upcoming season.
Stephon Gilmore has earned respect throughout the NFL
Along with elite play comes respect throughout the NFL. Not only did Stephon Gilmore land No. 9 on the Top 100 NFL Players of 2020 list, he also received a 99 rating in Madden 21.
With that last accolade, the New England Patriots cornerback who earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors in 2020 joins Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Donald and Christian McCaffrey as the only players to get a 99 rating in the popular video game.

But those accolades aren’t the only examples of respect Stephon Gilmore has earned. Opposing quarterbacks have to fear the Patriots elite corner and those who challenge him risk giving up a pick-six against the star. Just ask Andy Dalton and Ryan Fitzpatrick.
