New England Patriots need to pound the ball

This one seems obvious, but the New England Patriots had such a lethargic running game last season. They ran the ball plenty of times, ranking 9th in the NFL in rushing attempts as a team but were only 18th in rushing yards. They were 25th in the league in yards per carry at 3.8.

That has to improve, and it has to start against Miami. All signs point to the Patriots having a better rushing attack this year, thanks to the return of center David Andrews.

Cam Newton also adds a new dynamic to the offense, as he can make plays with his legs as well.

Sony Michel is likely to get the the majority of the carries due to Damien Harris being placed on IR to start the season. We should see a motivated Michel, as he is likely playing for his job as the starting running back because of his disappointing 2019 season combined with the reports of Harris looking like a stud in training camp.

If the Patriots can run the ball with efficiency, it gives them a huge advantage in this game. Miami’s offense isn’t exactly elite, so keeping the ball on the ground and limiting opportunities for them could end up resulting in the New England Patriots taking control early on.
