New England Patriots: A rare look inside the Belichick family
By Sam Minton
New England Patriots head coach can be viewed as a football machine, but we go a rare look into the true makeup of the coach on Wednesday.
When it comes to emotion, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick isn’t exactly the first person that comes to mind. At times it can seem like he is a robot, but fans have seen the true Belichick so far this week.
It hasn’t been the best week for the Belichick family. It was announced on Tuesday that his mother had passed away at the age of 98.
Sometimes we can forget that Belichick is a mere mortal. Some day he will stop coaching football and he has a family just like the rest of us.
It wasn’t just Bill either. You got to see the emotion of Bill’s children as well. They weren’t specifically created to be football geniuses.
Listening to Belichick speak, you could see how special of a woman she was.
"“Everybody has a certain relationship with their mom and dad, but as an only child, I was especially close to my parents,” Belichick said. “My mom and I spent a lot of time together. She was a great woman and I certainly learned pretty much everything from my parents. And then, with her love that she gave to her grandkids — to Amanda, Steve and Brian — was ultra special to me as well. I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and condolences. She had almost 99 years, so a very long and happy life. So she will be with my dad now.”"
When it comes to athletes and coaches, it can easily be forgotten that these are just regular people. They go through the same struggles that we do.
People were worried about how a guy like Cam Newton would fit. Newton is known for how emotional and outgoing he is. You can see his smile through his helmet a million miles away.
Critics seem to think that Bill Belichick wants no fun to be had and that it’s awful to play in New England. So far the Newton experience has worked out great for the Patriots. He looks to be a great quarterback and teammates as well as coaches are getting along great with him.
Bill Belichick didn’t become the greatest head coach in NFL history by driving his players insane. He can relate to them because even though it’s easy to forget, he is a normal person just like the rest of us.
The entire Chowder and Champions team sends their thoughts and prayers to the Belichick family during this difficult time.
