New England Patriots must limit Tyler Lockett

While the New England Patriots have Julian Edelman, the Seattle Seahawks have their own playmaking slot man in veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett.

In a Week 1 performance in which he caught 8 passes for 92 yards, Mr. Lockett presents a problem for the Patriots’ defense in the middle of the field.  This is where Jonathan Jones will be huge for the Patriots as he usually takes on the slot receiver.

But, will that be the direction Bill Belichick goes.  Will he put Stephon Gilmore on Lockett and have Jones slotted against an outside receiver with help while allowing J.C. Jackson to matchup against D.K. Metcalf?

It will definitely be a game of strategy, but the Patriots can’t allow Lockett to dominate the middle of the field.  If they do, it will be a long night for the Patriots’ defense.  But you have to bet on Belichick taking out the top offensive weapon, which does appear to be Tyler Lockett although Metcalf, tight ends Greg Olsen and old friend Jacob Hollister present challenges in the passing game.

In all, the New England Patriots can’t allow the Russell Wilson to Tyler Lockett connection to get off and rolling.
