Keep an eye on Hunter Renfrow

With rookie wide receiver Henry Ruggs III already ruled out for this matchup between the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders, second-year wide receiver Hunter Renfrow may be targeted early in this game.

In what looks to be an obvious advantage for the Patriots secondary, don’t overlook a player like Renfrow turning into Derek Carr’s go-to guy with quick, short-yardage passes.

Where he is most effective is on third down, so the Patriots will have to account for him while putting a lot of focus on outstanding tight end Darren Waller.  With Stephon Gilmore and J.C. Jackson locking up things on the outside, the focus will be on Jonathan Jones who typically covers the slot receiver.

If Jones allows Hunter Renfrow to win this matchup, it could be a long afternoon for the Patriots’ defense.

So far this season, Renfrow has just 5 receptions for 58 yards.  But, again, with Ruggs III ruled out, Carr will look to establish something early with the Clemson product who Patriots fans wanted the team to select in the 2019 NFL Draft as a possible Julian Edelman replacement.

The New England Patriots simply can’t allow him to have a breakout game.
