Patrick Mahomes II is “changing the game”

How will Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots stop Patrick Mahomes II with all the weapons he has at his disposal?

Well, the best defense against a quarterback like Mahomes and an explosive offense like the Kansas City Chiefs is to simply keep that offense off the field.  The Patriots have had some success of this in the team’s previous matchups, including the AFC Championship Game back in 2018.

Those games still ended up close because of how quickly Mahomes can get the ball down the field.

Coming off a Monday night performance in which he threw for 385 yards and four touchdowns, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick knows he has his work cut out for him as far as defending the exciting young quarterback.  In fact, he didn’t have much more praise to offer when it came to the Chiefs quarterback.  However, the man capable of keeping him off the field gave him the ultimate praise.

Cam Newton, when asked about Patrick Mahomes, referred to him as the leader of a new wave of quarterbacks.

"“Man, he’s changing the game,” Newton said Thursday, via ESPN’s Mike Reiss.  “I think he’s shining light on the new wave of quarterbacks.  It’s just fun to watch.”"

Well, he’ll get to watch firsthand on Sunday afternoon.  Hopefully, Newton and the New England Patriots running game can put on their own show to help keep a man who has already thrown for 898 yards and nine touchdowns through 3 games off the field.
